The Improved Fatal Error Protection
Following the post on Site Health mechanisms released in WordPress 5.1, the feature labelled “Fatal Error Protection” (see #44458) was reverted, resulting in it not ending up as part of that release.
This was necessary due to several security concerns, partly discovered by the team, partly by third-party security experts. A completely new approach was required, which would require additional time to be planned and implemented.
This post outlines the new proposed approach in detail.
What Is HTTP/3 – Lowdown on the Fast New UDP-Based Protocol
The new version of the HTTP protocol benefits from the bare-metal, low-level UDP protocol, and defines many of the new features which were in previous versions of HTTP at the TCP layer. This provides a way of solving constraints within the existing internet infrastructure.
The first results are promising, and when the Internet Draft by IETF expires, in June 2019, we can expect HTTP/3 to be promoted as a new, third generation HTTP standard.
Automattic Takes on Facebook with “A Meditation on the Open Web”
Open Web Meditation was created as a design experiment at Automattic that encourages viewers to look beyond the walls of dominant social media platforms and consider how their experiences on the web differ based on where they choose to share their ideas. The company is looking to gain global exposure for the video by inviting people to create their own versions of it in their own languages.
